Isolation

THE LOCKDOWN ART SESSIONS

Each artist has been creating their own work for some time but when the Covid 19 pandemic forced them into isolation they decided to meet up online once a month and create pieces of work created on a pre-arranged theme. They digitally exchanged and viewed work using Zoom.

At the same time each artist continued to develop and extend their existing interests and creative practice. This togetherness through “doing” projects, helped counterbalance the isolation of that period.

The support and experience of the group activity often encouraged the artists to experiment in new directions. The work created is sometimes playful, sometimes serious, sometimes unfinished, each session had a time limit of three hours, often wildly different from individual practices.

All the artists agree that " The support and experience of our group activity has encouraged us to continue working together to jointly create this exhibition."

    The four artists

    MEL BURRIDGE

    MEL BURRIDGE

    MEL BURRIDGE

Invites viewers to engage in a world of fantasy and intrigue, revealed through her joyful and playful handling of colour and paint. Yet there is also anger “a deep seated fury at the vicissitudes and injustices of modern existence”

    ANGELA GAWN

    MEL BURRIDGE

    MEL BURRIDGE

Is a refined representational artist whose work focusses on “place perception” through her empathy with nature and the changing landscapes and personal experiences from living in Norfolk, Ireland and the Isle of Wight.

    CLAIRE NELMES

    CLAIRE NELMES

    CLAIRE NELMES

Is preoccupied with our awareness of how experience and emotion arise from perceptions unbound by language in her abstract works in paint, video, collage, and animation. She also works directly with communities to create art works.

    SUE NICHOLAS

    CLAIRE NELMES

    CLAIRE NELMES

Energetic “Thought Patterns” find dynamic rhythm through merging and combining shape, line, form, colour, and space to make abstract compositions in both acrylic paint on board and paper. She also produces digital works that are exported as prints on metal and paper.
